The Detroit Pistons have reopened contract negotiations with center Jalen Duren after weeks of limited communication, with the team reportedly increasing its offer to five years and $200 million.

According to NBA insider Shams Charania, negotiations between the Pistons and Duren had reached a stalemate earlier in the offseason, creating uncertainty over whether the young center would even appear at the team’s media day, which is only about a week away.

Detroit’s previous offers were reportedly worth between $180 million and $190 million over five years.

Those proposals also included incentive-based provisions, including clauses related to Duren’s weight, which were among the factors affecting negotiations between the two sides.

Talks had remained relatively quiet over the past several weeks, but communication has now resumed as the Pistons attempt to secure Duren’s long-term future.

Charania reported that Detroit’s latest proposal has increased to five years and $200 million, representing another significant step up from the team’s previous offers.

A $200 million agreement over five seasons would carry an average annual value of $40 million, demonstrating how highly Detroit values Duren as part of its long-term core.

No agreement has been officially announced, however, and the two sides still need to resolve the remaining contractual issues.

With media day and training camp approaching, whether Detroit and Duren can finalise a new deal before the start of the season has become one of the Pistons’ most important remaining offseason storylines.
